Welcome to the webpages of the Development Politics Specialist Group of the Political Studies Association. The group exists to bring together scholars working on the politics and (international) political economy of development.
Objectives
The group aims to reflect diverse ways of conducting research into development politics. Work that starts from an international perspective and intensive fieldwork based area studies are both strong in the UK. However, the interdisciplinary and area specific nature of much work means that it does not always have a high profile within the discipline of Politics. This study group provides a forum oriented towards the discipline of Politics in which face to face discussions will enrich work prior to publication. While we welcome work with immediate policy relevance we are keen to promote work that asks broader, more theoretical questions. A breadth of approach has been a traditional strength of UK Development Politics and it is one that we would like to encourage. We are keen to collaborate with other study groups and institutions especially with the holding of workshops. As our research is international in perspective we also want to have contributions from international scholars and seek to facilitate visits and exchanges. We are particularly keen to raise the profile of Development Politics at the PSA annual conference.
